Measurement Guide

Make use of our handy Measurement Guide to ensure you have the correct size for your Blinds, Curtains, Shutters & Awnings

Before You Begin

Before taking measurements, make sure you have the following tools handy:

  • A steel tape measure
  • Pen and paper for jotting down measurements
  • Step ladder (if needed for high windows)
  • Consider having someone assist you for accurate measurements, especially for larger windows.

Step 1: Measure Width

  1. Start with the width measurement. Measure the inside width of the window frame from the left side to the right side. Take three measurements at the top, middle, and bottom of the window.
  2. Record the narrowest of the three measurements. This ensures that your blinds, shutters, awnings, or curtains will fit properly.

Step 2: Measure Height

  1. Measure the inside height of the window frame from the top to the bottom in three places: left side, middle, and right side.
  2. Record the longest of the three measurements. This ensures that your window treatment will cover the entire height.

Step 3: Check for Obstacles

  1. Identify any obstructions inside the window frame, such as window handles, locks, or other hardware.
  2. Measure the distance from these obstructions to the nearest edge of the window frame.
  3. Note these measurements as they may affect the fitting of your window treatment.

Step 4: Consider Mounting Style

  1. Decide on the mounting style for your window treatment:

    • Inside Mount: The treatment is mounted inside the window frame for a sleek look.

    • Outside Mount: The treatment is mounted outside the window frame, often to cover a larger area.
  2. Measure accordingly based on your chosen mounting style.

Step 5: Additional Tips

  • If you’re ordering curtains, consider adding extra width for a fuller look when closed.
  • If you’re getting shutters, specify whether you want them to open from the left or right.
  • For awnings, measure the area you want to cover, including any protruding obstacles.
